I lived in Squamish and recently sold my home there and I am not surprised to see it growing as it is but I am a bit surprised at how close the pricing is to the North Shore now. There are very few jobs and amenities and you have to drive to get to work or go anywhere. We spent a lot of money in our budget on gas and vehicles while the kids were young.
I spoke to a builder the other day and I am going to look more into this further but he told me people are building at $ 350 SFT Approx now in Squamish. I noticed a lot of the price Per SFT selling is around $ 400- $ 500 SFT. Prices are adjusting down a bit but not as drastically as the North Shore and Vancouver.
Squamish’s population is growing: In 2016, it was 19,512, up from 17,158 in 2011, an increase of 13.7 percent.
I loved living in Squamish when it was affordable and still go there often as my son lives and works there but he can hardly afford to live there anymore and more and more people are moving back to the city.
Will Squamish see a large price correction or keep rising as it has been?
Here is a recent Article from the Vancouver Sun about Squamish. it is an amazing place to live but do your homework before buying and look at all of your options as it is a big investment long term.
